Outdoor fittings operate in conditions that can differ sharply from indoor spaces. The right product depends on where it will be installed, what needs to be illuminated and how it will be maintained.
Define the application first
A gate, garden path, building facade, yard, parking area and roadway have different lighting objectives. Describe the area, the activity taking place there, the operating hours and any nearby homes or roads where stray light may matter.
Confirm mounting and light distribution
Record the mounting height, pole or bracket arrangement, aiming direction and the area to cover. Ask for the beam or photometric information for the exact fitting. Wattage alone cannot show whether a fitting will illuminate the intended area uniformly or create unwanted glare.
Check environmental protection
Review the product's verified IP rating and suitability for the actual environment, including rain exposure, dust, coastal conditions, heat or vibration where applicable. Confirm that the wiring entries, connectors and installation accessories are also appropriate; the fitting rating alone does not guarantee an entire installation is protected.
Confirm electrical and maintenance details
Ask for input requirements, driver details, surge-protection information where required, mounting hardware, cleaning access and replacement procedure. For public, industrial or high-mounted installations, the project team should plan safe maintenance access before selecting the final equipment.
Use a proper design for road or large-area lighting
Street and large-area installations may have requirements for spacing, uniformity, glare control, spill light and local approvals. A qualified designer should calculate the layout and verify the selected photometric files against the applicable requirements.
Prepare your enquiry
Send the location, area dimensions, pole or mounting height, quantity, usage, environmental conditions and any drawings. ALWYS can discuss catalogue options and quotation details, but the final design and compliance decisions must be checked for the actual site.
Tell us about your lighting requirement.
Share the product types, estimated quantities, location and any available requirement sheet. The ALWYS team can follow up about product availability and pricing.
