Start with the way the shop is used
A lighting plan for a clothing shop will not be identical to one for a grocery store, showroom, pharmacy or electrical retailer. List the areas first: entrance, aisles, shelves, counters, display walls, back room and signage. Decide which areas need even general light and which displays need focused light.
Check the light output and distribution
Do not compare fittings only by wattage. Ask for verified lumen output, beam angle or light-distribution information where relevant, and the recommended mounting position. A high-wattage product is not automatically the right choice if the beam is narrow, creates glare or leaves shelves in shadow.
For a new fit-out, the designer should estimate the required light level for each task area and review the final layout. Room size, ceiling height, wall colours, shelving and daylight can all affect the result.
Choose colour appearance deliberately
Colour temperature changes how a space feels, but one colour is not best for every shop. Compare sample products under the actual materials and merchandise. If colour accuracy is important, ask for the product's verified colour-rendering information and check it against the intended application.
Check fitting details before placing a bulk order
Confirm the mounting method, cut-out or surface dimensions, voltage, driver requirements, finish, warranty terms in writing and the exact model that will be delivered. Ask the supplier to confirm availability and whether all items in the quotation use the same specifications.
Plan before ordering
Prepare a simple layout, count each fitting type and allow for replacement units where appropriate. For a large shop or a multi-location rollout, have a qualified lighting professional check the design before finalising quantities.
What to send when requesting a quote
Share the shop location, approximate floor area, ceiling height, product types, quantity by type, preferred colour appearance and any drawings or photos that can be shared. The ALWYS team can use these details to discuss suitable catalogue options and pricing; the final selection should be based on verified product data and the actual site requirements.
Tell us about your lighting requirement.
Share the product types, estimated quantities, location and any available requirement sheet. The ALWYS team can follow up about product availability and pricing.
